Carob Milkshake (Kharroub)

Ground carob pods, sold as kharroub in Moroccan spice markets, are blended into milk for a naturally sweet, chocolate-like drink without any actual cocoa. It's a traditional treat, especially popular during Ashura celebrations.

Ingredients

  • 500 ml cold milk
  • 2 tbsp carob powder
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • Ice cubes

Method

    Blend

    Combine the milk, carob powder, honey, cinnamon and ice in a blender.

    Blend on high for 30 seconds until smooth and frothy.

    Taste and adjust honey to preference — carob has a natural sweetness that varies by brand.

    Pour into glasses and serve immediately, chilled.
