Date, Honey and Toasted Almond Yogurt

Ingredients

  • 500 g thick strained yogurt
  • 8 soft dates, pitted and chopped
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 40 g almonds, toasted and chopped
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp orange-blossom water (optional)

Method

  1. 1

    Season the yogurt

Stir the orange-blossom water and a little of the honey through the yogurt.

  2. 2

    Toast the almonds

Toast the chopped almonds in a dry pan until golden and fragrant, then cool.

  3. 3

    Layer

Spoon yogurt into glasses, layer with chopped dates, and repeat.

  4. 4

    Finish

Top with the remaining honey, the toasted almonds and a dusting of cinnamon.

Chef's tips

  • Use thick, strained yogurt so it holds the layers and balances the sweetness of the dates.
  • Assemble just before serving so the almonds stay crunchy against the creamy yogurt.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a dessert or breakfast?

Both — Moroccans eat dates, honey and yogurt at breakfast, and this dressed-up version works equally as a light dessert.

Can I use plant yogurt?

Yes — thick coconut or almond yogurt works well and keeps it dairy-free while staying rich.
